Rowan Vickers Cast In ‘Nat Turner In Jerusalem’
Actor Rowan Vickers, who graduated from Warwick Academy, has been cast as character Thomas R. Gray in a New York Theatre Workshop production of ‘Nat Turner In Jerusalem’, with previews set to begin September 7 and the official opening night on September 26.
“Previews are set to begin September 7 with an official opening night set for September 26.
A story at PlayBill.com says, “The New York Theatre Workshop has announced complete casting for the first two productions of its 2016-17 season: Othello, starring the previously announced David Oyelowo and Daniel Craig, and Nat Turner in Jerusalem.
“Kicking off the season will be Nat Turner in Jerusalem, written by NYTW 2050 Fellow Nathan Alan Davis [Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea] and directed by Megan Sandberg-Zakian. Phillip James Brannon [Bootycandy] will star as Nat Turner, and Rowan Vickers will play Thomas R. Gray. Davis’ new play imagines Turner, who led a landmark slave uprising, during his final night in a jail cell in Jerusalem, VA.
“Billed by NYTW as a timely new play “woven with vivid imagery and indelible lyricism,“ Nat Turner in Jerusalem recalls Turner’s final hours.
“In August 1831, Nat Turner led a slave uprising that shook the conscience of the nation. Turner’s startling account of his prophecy and the insurrection was recorded and published by attorney Thomas R. Gray.”
