Information Session On Mixed Status Families
The Consultative Immigration Reform Working Group is inviting interested parties to an information session on the topic of “Mixed Status Families.”
This information session will take place on Wednesday, September 28 at the Berkeley Institute, running from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
Chairman of the Group William Madeiros said, “The purpose of this information session is to inform the public of important statistical information and clarify the definition of a mixed status family.
“One of the messages that The Group received from the last series of meetings is that the public wanted more data in order to make informed decisions on this topic. We hope this information session will answer many questions that the public may have.”
Submissions to the Consultative Immigration Reform Working Group can be made via their drop box, located on the ground floor of the Government Administration Building on Parliament Street, calling 500-4664, or emailing immigrationbda@gmail.com
The Group will be working to formulate their recommendation on mixed status families after public consultation.
What is meant by mixed status? Immigration status?
How long have you been in Bermuda?
I been in bermuda for 48 years i have no Status yet still weighting it been 2years
Devil: are you trying to stir the pot or are you really that stupid? Go find a hobby.
Correct. A family in which a member is not Bermudian which happens more often than most people would think.
Immigration reform was what caused Parliament to be shut down for a week and the island almost come to a standstill. Yet there are only two comments? Realise this is just one part of the legislation but perhaps most Bermudians aren’t that fussed about this issue?
What more is there to say on this subject? Bermudians showed last spring that anyone without status is unwelcome, because people without status tend to have light-coloured skin like me. Our family got the message and left.
They aren’t. Polls back it up. It was just an extremely motivated minority bent on venting at the OBA and using the issue as a proxy battle.
You should have seen the attendance at the sessions over the summer – they were virtually empty. This one will probably have a few more in attendance now that we are in Sept, but I doubt it will be all that many.
Of course the information sessions were empty. When Bermudians are invited to rationally and calmly discuss the issue of allowing long-term residents normal human rights, they aren’t interested. But if they hear that someone might be allowed the right to vote after twenty years, they storm the assembly and shut it down.
Maybe a minority protested, but the majority sat back and watched my family’s dignity subjected to mob rule. The interests of us who are banned from voting will always be sacrificed to those who, by virtue of their origins, are allowed to vote. So the only alternative is to leave for somewhere that treats us, if not as equals, at least with dignity.
Wow. Someone asks a real question and they get insulted. I know for one that I was against immigration pathway because they ONLY thing you had to do was be in Bermuda for a period of time. You don’t have to learn our history, our culture, or anything. No background checks to make sure that you weren’t some fugitive from another country or anything. Do you know how hard it is to become a US citizen? And here Bermuda just wants to give it away because people had babies here, even when they knew the LAW before hand. But we are just supposed to open wide and let anyone who comes from an anglo saxon country in.
That was also an issue, because Bermuda has no issue shipping Jamaicans back home, but God forbid it be someone from the Azores. SMH!
Prime example of how Bermuda is full of little small minded Trumpers.
Against immigration because of the color of one’s skin.
Disgusting, but predictable.
And you better learn about how to become a US citizen before spouting of your ignorance. Look up ‘anchor babies’ for instance.
Racist idiot.
Do you have proof that there are illegal Acoreans in Bermuda that have not been shipped back?
or are you just a simple minded anti- (white) immigrant a-hole?
