Baron: Haiti’s Loss “Extremely Heartbreaking”
The Minister of National Security, Sen. Jeffrey Baron has joined others in the community in expressing “heartbreak” at the “devastating and tragic” loss of life in Haiti resulting from Hurricane Matthew.
The public will be aware that reports indicate that close to 900 people in Haiti have died as a result of last week’s storm. And this weekend, the Minister has reached out to the West Indian Association as a gesture of compassion and good will.
Minister Baron said, “It’s extremely heartbreaking to see the reports coming out of Haiti and to learn of the tremendous loss of life resulting from Hurricane Matthew. Our thoughts are with the entire nation of Haiti at this time. Hurricane Matthew by all accounts was a very devastating storm and its effects will be experienced for some time to come.
“Haiti’s humanitarian and recovery efforts are daunting, and the Ministry has reached out to the West Indian Association, to express our compassion and support in the wake of this tragedy, which has not only left hundreds dead, but hundreds of thousands more homeless.”
Minister Baron your views are exactly what many of us are feeling at this hour, but not only for Haiti’s loss and tragic events of lives being loss, but also for Cuba,Jamaica, Bahamas, Florida,South & North Carolina, and sad to say Historic Savannah Georgia, and Tybee Island to name a few.
It is in times like these that we are reminded just how frail life can be and the hardship of others’, is not just good enough to say that we feel for them. It is our humanitarian obligation that we reach out to these countries in their hour of need.
I can’t help but make this political statement, but it seem’s as if the O.B.A can find all the fund’s it needs to make this airport deal go through and sign their life away at selling their soul to the devil, then giving away prime real estate again, which is no better then the former administration.
The joke of the America’s cup may play out to be in our best interest in the long run , but $77 Million dollars and climbing is a high price tag and gamble of something that we have to wait and see if it really produces and financial worth to us as a country.
In the mean time let’s see what this government can do to assist Jamaica, Haiti & Cuba, I believe the United States will make sure it take’s care of it’s own, but if they need us in the least of way, we should also be prepared to assist them also.
Haiti being hit with the greatest devastation should not be ignored by us in Bermuda as a whole. Le the private organisations and institutions come together with the government and make sure we can assist.
Bermuda has much talent and many have been to Haiti and help build homes, schools, etc. with our traditional way of building with concrete blocks. maybe we can have a partnership of Mason’s, laborers be sent to help to rebuild, and government with the private sector, such as S.A.L & Bierman’s concrete and even Gorhams can help with supplies, cost of shipping can be paid for out of the public purse and the private sector.
Just a few suggestion, as other agencies from other jurisdictions have already and will continue to be deployed with aide for food and water and medical supplies.
This was unnecessary
Agreed!!!.. Duane stick to the point at hand and keep your ramblings and untruths to yourself.
I feel for the people of all the islands and states effected… (keeping an eye on Nicole)!!
My sentiments exactly….wonder why the Minister’s statement was so EMPTY….or do we really have to wonder….
too much hot air !!!! please state the numbers of what Bermuda can provide and how to help this less fortunate nation!! can refugee be brought in ? in many nations as such when disasters hit and help is sent it is them sold to the people ..please minister do something more than offer empty words as it could be us some day!!!!
