When are these idiot drivers going to get taken off the road, it seems like people drive with one eye on the road, and what ever happened to the law of not driving with a cellone in your ear? I see it every day!
I was there and the man was a nice elderly gentleman with no cellphone. It was an accidents (look that up in the dictionary).
Also, pedestrians should make sure that a driver in a vehicle can see them before attempting to cross on a pedestrian crossing on a busy road. Blame goes two ways if that’s the direction you want to go.
@ Divine. Agreed one hundred percent. Couldn’t have said it any better myself.
This probably doesn’t pertain to this event but it needs to be said and repeated…Pedestrians NEED to pay attention to TRAFFIC not their CELLPHONES when intending to cross a road…Some don’t even lift their heads and just turn and step into oncoming traffic…I’ve witnessed this on numerous occasions…A driver needs to pay attention to bikes zooming down on either side…Other drivers that may be on their cellfones or just plain ignorance such as swinging their doors open to exit the vehicles with out looking in their mirrors for oncoming vehicles…last week was the cremè de la cremè, outside the bank on Reid street a woman had her rear door wide open and she was standing in my lane leaning in changing a baby’s diaper in the back seat…(after a brief description of my thoughts of her actions…I don’t know but she might be pregnant again)Or parkers that straddle 2 potential spots. Now remember…we all have rights but your rights must not impede the rights of others.
” bikes zooming down on either side” -surely we must convince those riders (including pedal cyclists) that it is unsafe (and illegal) to overtake on that side of the lane. The onus needs to be on everybody.
This is happening too often.
Someone will die and that is when Government/Corp of Hamilton will do something about it.
Accidents can happen in less than 3 secs, the ability to avoid hitting or being hit calls for full concentration and space to manovuer. It is likely the driver saw an opportunity to move forward, as he was doing so the lady appeared. More police officers on foot around the city especially in the area of intersections can help encourage folks to be alert. We are now approaching the Christmas period, so we need to be a bit more viligant.
