Corrections Week: Officers To Be Recognized

April 28, 2017

The Minister of National Security Jeff Baron will join the Department of Corrections in observing “Corrections Week” from April 30 – May 5.

This year, several events are scheduled for next week which includes a special church service on Sunday at Better Covenant Christian Fellowship and a Seniors Tea at the First Church of God on North Shore on Monday.

Minister Baron, who will participate in some of the planned events said, “I’m pleased to join with the Commissioner and the Department of Corrections to observe Corrections Week.

“The men and women in the Department of Corrections are called on to provide a unique service. And this week affords us the opportunity to highlight the invaluable work that they do in helping to safeguard our community. So as Minister, I am pleased to extend my support and appreciation for all that they do in service of Bermuda.”

Commissioner of Corrections, Edward Lambe added, “This year marks our fourth annual celebration of Corrections Week and we are excited about the planned activities. All of our events will involve celebrating our staff for the service they render the wider community, while also showcasing all that we do.

“Some events also involve our community, such as the hugely popular Senior Citizen’s Tea and Children’s Party. These activities allow us the opportunity to take time out from our hectic and demanding profession to recognise the value of our staff as well as to forge stronger bonds, in and outside our facilities.”

Corrections Week is in keeping with other jurisdictions’ recognition of the contributions of Corrections Officers and support personnel who work in our prison facilities.
