Reggie Lambe Scores In Carlisle Victory
Bermuda’s Reggie Lambe scored for Carlisle United as they played to a 2-0 victory against Yeovil.
The club’s match report said, “Carlisle got back to winning ways in some style at Huish Park as they created chances, scored goals and showed a ruthless streak on an afternoon when they returned to something like their best.
“Yeovil showed first on the day when Zoko found a gap to move the ball through in midfield. He fed it wide to Dawson and he wasn’t too far away with a first time rasper which flew just past the angle of post and bar.
“United bit back with a slick move which took Lambe into an advanced area. He clipped it to Joyce and the shot from the midfielder was blocked at source. Joyce mpved to control the loose ball and he spread it wide for Grainger to go on the overlap. A low cross begged to be finished off but it was just too far in front of Proctor and Shephard was able to clear.
“Striker Tom Eaves did well to control a difficult scoop forward, as the Glovers attacked again, and his touch set up a cut back as Harrison came in support. Brisley watched the movement and stepped in to get it away to safety.
“Eaves was influential again moments later as he switched to the left flank to deliver a deep, hanging delivery. Shephard ghosted into the box and sent a firm header right at Gillespie.
“Carlisle got forward from the release from their keeper and they ended their long wait for a goal when Lambe bided his time before sweeping a curling cross into the mix. John O’Sullivan stood his ground and he left Krysiak with no chance as he glanced a beauty of a header into the top corner.
“Captain Danny Grainger bent a long range free kick into the stands as United stayed on the front foot, and the side grew in confidence as passes started to find their mark.
“Another teasing inswinger from Grainger had Raynes interested, as Yeovil failed to find any kind of spark, but Mugabi jumped high to make a good headed block.
Yeovil struggled to make an impact through a nip and tuck passage of play but they went close in time added on for the half when Whitfield whisked a wicked free kick into the area. Eaves got there with the merest of touches but that served only to divert it beyond the post.
“The second half took a while to get going, as the visitors held a disciplined shape, but the use of an elbow by Ben Whitfield on Tom Miller ignited a spark as he was shown a red card for the challenge.
“Carlisle turned the screw almost immediately when Raynes found a perfect through ball for Lambe to deal with. His first thundering shot was well saved by Krysiak but he reacted quickly, took a touch, and thumped a second stinger into the waiting net via the angle of post and bar.
“Substitute Tom James almost caused a very controversial moment when he kept a ball from Gillespie, which was intended for touch so that Raynes could receive treatment, in play and alive on the left wing. He crossed as the red shirts remained static and it was felt that justice was served when Goodship headed wide.
“Lambe lost his balance as he tried to double his tally for the day from a difficult volley and Waring got his bearings wrong when he nodded a Grainger corner into the stands with Carlisle dictating the pace of the game.
“Lambe put another snapshot over the bar from a half clearance from an O’Sullivan free kick, and Zoko had a snapshot fly just wide as chances started to come at both ends late in the day.
“Dogged work from debut boy Samir Nabi put Krysiak under pressure, eventually leading to a cross from Bailey, and Waring and Lambe queued up as they had shots saved by the keeper. Jamie Devitt was the unluckiest of the bunch as an 18-yard volley was cleared off the line with the keeper well out of the picture.
“There was more good stuff from Nabi when he showed lovely skill to beat his man, not once – but twice, in front of the travelling fans, and the team came together to see the game out and to take themselves back into the play-off places, with George Waring missing a golden opportunity to open his account when he sent a close range volley right at Krysiak in time added on.”
