Minister Visits Child Development Programme
Last week, the Child Development Programme [CDP] hosted an event to celebrate the birth of those children born in 2015. The event was held to increase awareness of the free developmental screening for two year olds.
For parents the screening for children 24-30 months helps identify what their child is capable of doing and any areas of concerns parents or the screeners may have. The screening looks at children’s problem solving, communication and movement skills. If there are any concerns CDP offers free services to address them.
Minister of Education Cole Simons attended the event and read a story to the children.
Minister Simons said of the event, “I was pleased to join in the fun at the birthday celebration for our beautiful two year old citizens. For almost 40 years, CDP has been offering the free screenings and we must continue to showcase the positive things that they are doing and the terrific work they are doing to assist families in Bermuda.
“I encourage families who have not registered for a free screening to do so, it is such a beneficial service for your children. Early identification of developmental issues, partnered with a system of supports to intervene, can prevent early challenges from compromising the child’s development.”
