Fatal Boat Collision: Court Appearance Expected
The investigation into the boat collision in June that claimed the life of New Zealand native Mary Elizabeth McKee is “nearing its conclusion,” the male who was arrested is “on island under strict bail condition,” and a “court appearance is expected in due course,” the police said today.
At 10:40pm on June 1st of this year, a 26-year-old local male resident was driving a 17 ft. centre console vessel from the Front Street Ferry Terminal towards White’s Island.
In a statement at that time, the police said the “boat collided with a 9 ft. Zodiac inflatable carrying three visitors to our island who were thrown overboard.
“The occupants of the Zodiac all received injuries. Tragically, 62-year-old New Zealand visitor Mary Elizabeth McKee died from the injuries she sustained.”
Her 69-year-old husband, also from New Zealand, and a 26-year-old male UK visitor both received serious injuries.
Speaking today, a police spokesperson said, “The investigation into boat collision that took place on Thursday June 1st which resulted in the death of New Zealand native Mary Elizabeth McKee is nearing its conclusion and the male who was arrested in connection with the incident contrary to published reports is on island under strict bail condition. A court appearance is expected in due course.”
