Premier David Burt and Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Jamahl Simmons, are currently in Washington DC attending the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation [CBCF] Annual Legislative Conference Weekend.
“The CBCF Annual Legislative Conference [ALC] is the leading policy conference on issues impacting African Americans and the global black community. Thought leaders, legislators and concerned citizens engage on economic development, civil and social justice, public health and education issues. More than 9,000 people attend 70 public policy forums and much more,” the Government said.
“On Saturday, September 23rd, as the invited guest of US Congressman G. K. Butterfield, the Premier attended the CBCF Prayer Breakfast and the Phoenix Awards Dinner at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.”

Wasted money was when OBA Sports minister Sylvan Richards visited Brazil for the Olympics at a cost of more than $30,000 of taxpayer’s money.

Building strong International relations is good, but where does the CBCF fit in? Do they represent IB firms? No they’re politicians, spending other peoples’ money to try and look good. No help to Bermuda’s kids or in buying buses.

Burt wanted this job and better be prepared for tough questions about this and other things. How did this benefit Bermudians? This group have very little that they could promise. Bermudians were lead to believe that a plp government would do better but this appears to be nothing more than two egos getting a good rub on our tax dollar. That is why we need to hold them accountable.
The OBA had a website where you could see travel expenses and they were far far lower than under the PLP before and now the PLP have taken down that website so we don’t know what they’re spending.
So much for transparency.

If the test of being Bermudian comes only by reflexively falling into lockstep behind the leader whenever the Party flag is waved, then what we have is a formula for dictatorship, – not democracy… But the Bermudian way is to accept unthinkingly the doings of government officials.
While I am no fan of the PLP I do feel that we should wait for the break down of costs before we start saying it’s a waste of money. This could be a good networking trip or it might not got to wait and see.
