Ionel Bejan Dies After Collision In Hamilton
[Updated] The police have confirmed that a man has died following a collision on Church Street early this morning [Nov 5].
A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place at 3:45am on Church Street.
“Details are still developing but it appears that a 39-year-old man was traveling east on Church Street on a motorcycle when he lost control and collided with a shipping container parked on the right hand side of the road just past MarketPlace.
“The man was taken to the hospital via ambulance and his condition appears to be serious.”
Update 5.33am: The police said, “The 39-year-old man has died as a result of injuries sustained in the Road Traffic Collision in Church Street. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.”
This marks the 13th road fatality of the year, and follows only one week after the last fatal collision, and is the second death this weekend, following after the fatal shooting on Friday night.
Update 4.54pm: The police said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 39-year-old Ionel Bejan and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.
“Mr. Bejan, said to be a Romanian guest worker, was seriously injured around 3:45am Sunday, November 5th when the motorcycle he was riding struck a shipping container on Church Street in the City of Hamilton.
“He was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.
“The motorcycle involved has been impounded and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time.
“The investigation into this fatal crash, the 13th of 2017, continues and any witnesses that have not yet come forward are urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.”
