First Of Four New Buses Arrives In Bermuda
The Ministry of Transport and Regulatory Affairs said that the “first of four new buses has landed at Hamilton docks, with a further three expected within the next four months.”
“This is only the first step in new strategies that the Government feels will increase vehicle availability and enhance public transportation,” a Government spokesperson said.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport & Regulatory Affairs Walter Roban said, “Our Throne Speech agenda for a better and fairer Bermuda means we have to be able to get those who depend on public transportation to work on time. We must also ensure our children get to their classrooms and back home without incident.
“The Government believes in a transportation policy that promotes safety and reliability for all Bermuda citizens. And a key part of that is ensuring safe and reliable public transportation. In the weeks and months ahead, we anticipate a substantial improvement in the status quo.
“The new buses, including the one that is on Hamilton docks today, are being built to a new standard of specification which we believe will be more suited to the operating conditions in Bermuda.”
“In addition to the four new buses, Government has initiated action to overhaul a number of the buses already on the island to breathe new life into them, as part of an overall plan to address the ageing bus fleet.
The Minister said, “Considering the situation we inherited, we cannot completely fix the fleet’s shortcomings overnight.
“But the arrival of new buses, and those scheduled for significant repair, will improve our in-service numbers and provide our mechanics with a little more breathing room to keep more of the fleet operational.”
If you wanna do something right. Fix the bus schedule. It’s past time. Stop paying out overtime.
I have never understood whey they have several bussed leaving the terminal at the same time. It would make common sense to have them leaving a few minutes apart.. They all get to the first bus stop on Church and court and cannot fit in the bus layby.. No thought into this and for years the same thing.. Need some new thinking at the Bus Terminal
Quite right. Time to be in the 21st century.
Problem is that any schedule change needs to be ratified by the union… they have rejected every modification over the past 10 or so years
Can’t be cutting into that overtime!
Why? Overtime = votes? Why change?
Can someone tell me whwn was de last time we had a new bus in de island?
Has Roban said anything regarding the proposed bus schedules? Because seriously, if that’s the way to get some efficiency and reliability back into the mix… get the drivers’ union on board already.
The Minister said, “Considering the situation we inherited, we cannot completely fix the fleet’s shortcomings overnight. More accurately “”Considering the mess we left in 2012, lack of maintenance and the lack of funds to buy new buses” I am gratified by the OBA having ordered 4 new buses.
The situation you “inherited” is the situation you created.
Yeah and when that’s done how about the garbage trucks. Is it really necessary for them to work after 5pm and Saturday’s
But if its a holiday the next day, they always finish on time. Amazing isn’t it!
Ya! One employee said to us – hey dudes you need to deal with the ants! They’re all over me! (As he is brushing them off his shirt after picking up our 3-day old trash) – We turned around and said – well maybe if you picked the trash up on the day you were supposed to pick it up then maybe there wouldn’t be an ant problem! There was nothing he could say but laugh!
Who ordered these buses?
Yeah, I thought so. Taking credit again for what other people did.
LAZY slipshod mechanics and poor Management, ill trained and protected by the plp/biu.
paid vacationing drivers will be pissed
If you have chosen before…
This is good to see. I’m tired of seeing regular people stuck waiting at the bus stops for cancelled transport while champagne liberal MP’s swish by in their big executive cars. More buses for the workers and a proper ferry schedule back. Come on PLP, prove you really possess social conscious credentials.
How long will it take for the new or buses to break down….
You inherited the buses your last stratagem brought to Bermuda your status quotient is the same.
4 new buses in 6 months in power. Impressive!
Ordered by the previous admin.
Didn’t oba order these?
