ABIR Hosts UGA Students For Annual Program
The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers [ABIR] hosted the University of Georgia [UGA] students on March 13th for a 2-hour primer on how Bermuda has become one of the world’s most important reinsurance centers over the last 25 years.
“Helping connect Bermuda to the next generation of insurance industry professionals carries our risk innovation history forward,” said Ms. Leila Madeiros, ABIR’s Senior Vice President and Deputy Director, who led the class. “We are approaching the 25th year anniversary of the reinsurance class of 1993, the real commencement of the modern Bermuda market.”
The UGA students were joined by Bermudians David Lunn, Jahlaé Albuoy and Katie Arnfield, who were recipients of the The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies [BFIS] scholarship.
The students are taking part in the UGA Terry College of Business ‘Bermuda Insurance Market Study Group’ annual March trip to Bermuda, now in its seventh year. The visit to Bermuda is led by Jenny Atkinson, Professor at the UGA’s Terry College of Business.
The students also spent time at the Bermuda Insurance Institute, Bowring Marsh, Chubb, CPCU Bermuda Chapter, JLT Specialty, Marsh Management Services, Price Forbes, Sompo International, Third Point Re and XL Catlin with work-shadowing on the third day at Allied World, Aon, Arch Insurance, Sompo International, JLT and Willis Towers Watson.
