Appleby Ranked 20th In Top Global Restructuring
Appleby has been recognised as one of the 30 leading law firms in the world for global restructuring, according to Global Restructuring Review [GRR].
“This accolade comes on the heels of an outstanding 2017/18 year for Appleby‘s restructuring practice, in which the firm acted on the largest offshore restructuring matters including Ocean Rig UDW, CHC Group and SeaDrill,” the company said.
David Bulley [pictured], who leads the corporate restructuring team, said, “Having been ranked in the GRR 100 last year, we are delighted to have made it into the GRR 30 this year and to be ranked 20th overall, placing Appleby alongside many of the leading onshore firms with whom we regularly act.
“Our involvement in several recent, highly complex deals, together with this recognition, has once again reinforced our position as the go-to offshore firm for restructuring, particularly in the oil and gas restructuring space.”
This year, Appleby advised on the restructuring of Ocean Rig UDW Inc. which was recognised as the ‘Energy Deal of the Year’ and the ‘Restructuring of the Year [1-5bn USD]’ at the 10th annual International M&A Advisor Awards and winner of the ‘Turnaround Large [1-5bil]’ award at the Turnaround Atlas Awards.
In 2017, Appleby was a winner in the ‘small or regional law firm that impressed’ category at the GRR Inaugural Charity Awards Gala in London, and was also shortlisted for an award in the ‘innovation in cross-border insolvency and restructuring’ category for work the firm did as Company counsel for its client, CHC.
“Every large offshore restructuring mandate involves the formation of the optimal team from across our practice areas, drawing from our corporate restructuring, dispute resolution, corporate and banking and finance teams. It is thanks to the strength of Appleby’s teams across all of these practice areas and offices that we have once again been acknowledged for our ability to provide first-rate restructuring services across multiple jurisdictions,” added Mr. Bulley.
