Husband & Wife Win Bermuda Chess Titles
Mark Flanagan triumphed in the Bermuda Chess Championships 2018, clinching the title Bermuda Chess Champion 2018, with a score of 6/7 points. The tournament included 18 players and took place over 7 weeks, and the runners up were Moses Mufandaedza and Sergey Goncharov, on 5.5 and 5 respectively.
Mark’s wife, Yasmin Flanagan, won the title of Bermuda Women’s Chess Champion 2018, having scored 3/7 points. She finished ahead of Olga Goncharova and Martina Smith.
“Bermuda Chess Association is growing in number of players and a number of tournaments are held every year, at the club’s regular playing venue, in the basement of the Bermuda Housing Corporation on Reid Street. Games take place on Tuesdays 7.15,” the BCA said.
“The club is also preparing two teams for the upcoming Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia. For the first time in Bermudian history an all female team with play alongside the Open team.
