Minister Caines Trip To Florida Cost $296.33
A trip in July 2018 by Minister of National Security Wayne Caines to attend the KORIED Global Summit in Florida cost $296.33, according to a recent listing on the Government’s travel webpage.
The trip duration was listed as from July 10, 2018 – July 11, 2018, and the web page listing said, “The Minister of National Security travelled to Miami, Florida to attend the KORIED Global Summit in July, where he presented on Blockchain and Bermuda’s FinTech Strategy.
“This summit had representation from over 12 Caribbean, Canadian, and U.S. Governments which included finance and IT professionals, Government Officials, Investment and Actuarial consultants, public and Taft Hartley pension fund trustees and staff.
“Note 1: Cost of airfare and accommodation was underwritten for July 10th
“Note 2: Flight was cancelled from Miami on July 11th, hotel charge incurred – $213.57, returned to island on July 12th”
Expenses
- Ground Transportation: $25.44
- Accommodation: $213.57
- Meals: $57.32
- Total costs: $296.33
That is reasonable.
Underwritten by who?
Was airfare provided to all attendees or just Bermuda’s?
And how much did the Bermuda Government give KORIED in sponsorship, in order to get these “free” air tickets and hotel stays?
Caines must think we’re all frikkin idiots.
If the flight was cancelled the airline would provide accommodation plus meal vouchers plus $400 – $1000 compensation. Either Mr Caines was not prepared to accept the airline’s hotel or this sounds off!
Only under certain circumstances. Otherwise you are on your own for accommodation. The flights will be re booked but anything else you need to find yourself.

You know all the travel expense reports are false…..what hotel costs $213 and breakfast, lunch & dinner $57….absolute lies!!!
