Whitney Institute Middle School Girls Night
[Written by Kamaria Hinkson]
Whitney Institute Middle School held a ‘Girls Night In’ event on Friday, October 19, from 6pm until Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 7am.
The purpose of the evening was to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and to provide the young ladies with opportunities for bonding, self-empowerment, team building and community mindedness.
There were 54 young ladies from all three year levels in attendance as well as 10 female members of staff who volunteered their time and effort to make this event a success. The young ladies participated in a variety of activities throughout the evening including an empowerment session, scavenger hunt, dance competition, aerial arts, spa treatments and a movie.
Special thanks to Miss Thang of Power 95 who provided our young ladies with her inspirational story, words of affirmation and encouragement to empower and uplift them. Also many special thanks to Sophia Cannonier and her team at Lotus Integrated Health and Wellness Studio who performed and provided our young ladies with an opportunity to experience the aerial arts.
Thank you to our young ladies who demonstrated service and a sense of togetherness while providing facials, hair treatments, hair styling and manicures to one another. I would also like to thank our amazing team of educators at Whitney Institute Middle School who commit so much of their time and energy to the development and growth of our young people.
This was the final event of our October charitable campaign for Breast Cancer awareness as Whitney Institute Middle School also participated in PALS Crazy Mad Hair Day, Bermuda Cancer & Health’s Wear Pink Day, BF&M’s Rethink Pink Walk and the school pink bake sale.
Thank you ladies for your support. I will be a 10 year cancer survivor on October 28, 2018. Former Whitney graduate 1972.
