Waste & Recycling Calendar Now Available
The Ministry of Public Works today released the 2019/2020 Garbage and Recycling Schedule, which can be found on the Government portal here.
“The publication will also be mailed to households so that residents can have their own copy of the calendar,” the Ministry said. “The public is aware that the Ministry has switched to a once-a-week garbage collection system to more efficiently collect from households. So, the aim of the calendar is to assist residents with having the accurate collection dates for their refuse.
“The publication also offers some useful information on the types of waste [batteries, paints, e-waste] collected and some steps residents can take to prevent both unwanted odours and vermin.
“Lastly, the Ministry recognises that there may be some occasions when there are delays in waste collection. In such instances, the public is encouraged to call the Marsh Folly Depot at 292-1517. For missed recycling collections email recycle@gov.bm or call 501-3043.”

Only the PLP would think that halving the service is making things “more efficient”.
Have the residents of Alexandra Road been given a schedule?
How many overseas consultants had to help draft this master work?
I am aware we recycle tin cans/bottles and understand from a reliable source that the cans are taken to the airport dump and crushed, placed in a wire mesh and sunk to make landfill. How is this any good for the marine environment? Please correct me if I have misunderstood. Are old AC’s, left over paint, etc. discarded in a similar manner rather than being shipped off island? I do understand cost is a factor with shipping recyclables off island, but we need to do a lot better in taking care of our environment!
Good Day Cathy
At present the recycling plant is shipping its good away and getting a return. If you would like you can visit the recycling plant at the Quarry and have a tour for more Information.
I hope they will be mailing this out to all households.
They do , every year and still people put their trash out the day or even 4 days before collection. And I wont even talk about people who still haven’t figured out after 10 years that the trash no longer gets pick up the day after a public holiday like it used to .
Oh , and thank you to the pig (no one on my small road) who put their trash outside of my gate on Monday night under the cover of darkness after the trash was collected on Monday morning.
