Mirrors Honours Volunteers & Service Partners
The Mirrors Programme and Mirrors Alumni and Friends Association recently held a volunteer appreciation event at Masterworks to recognize their dedicated volunteers and coaches.
The Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator Kathy Lynn Simmons attended the event to acknowledge the contributions of the more than 50 volunteers and service partners.

Minister Simmons said, “Last year, almost 70 individuals volunteered with Mirrors, and on average approximately half of those volunteers have returned to assist our students.
“We sincerely appreciate the contribution of people that give back to our community, especially those that support our youth in transforming their lives. Whether you volunteer once or multiple times, your commitment to Bermuda’s youth goes beyond wanting to make a difference, to doing something to make a difference.”

Mirrors Programme Coordinator, Kim Jackson noted that the Mirrors Volunteer of the Year award was presented to David Stubbs, a youth life coach who went above and beyond to work with his youth.
Mrs. Jackson said, “David made the most of every moment and shifted wherever needed, often stepping outside of his comfort zone to follow his youth’s vision without wavering. David saw possibility in his youth and was committed to the young man’s vision of how he wanted his life to be.”
Additional awardees included John Perinchief, Naomi Lucille Rochester, Tahiyyah Muwwakkil, Pamela Blackwood, Antoine Lightbourne and Delores Thompson.

The event was sponsored by the Mirrors Alumni and Friends Association in partnership with Burrows Lightbourne, who generously donated the beverages for the evening.
The event was hosted at Masterworks and coincided with the opening of Mirrors’ 3rd Annual Art and Digital Competition for young people from Bermuda’s schools. Students submitted artwork on the theme of ‘Infrastructure in the Island of Bermuda’.
The focus of this competition provided students with the opportunity to reflect on the cultural, structural and institutional systems that make-up our community. The exhibit will run through August 6th 2019 where the public can view and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award. Prizes will be awarded to students and schools in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place categories for primary, middle and senior schools. “
