Unity Fest Management On Wayne Wonder

Responding to a recent LoopJamaica story that quotes reggae artist Wayne Wonder as citing a fundamental disagreement leading to his decision not to appear at the upcoming Unity Fest, the management team behind the event say that “his comments are inconsistent with any correspondence and or legal documentation”

The LoopJamaica story said, “Jamaican reggae artist Wayne Wonder was reported to have pulled out of a weekend concert in Bermuda, in which he was due to appear alongside Grammy Award winner Buju Banton.

“Wonder was reached to explain what led to the development, and he pointed to a hiccup that resulted from a breakdown in communication.

“It was something simple, they didn’t want to accommodate me originally; I was supposed to just appear with Buju. [But after], they asked me to do a full set, and I said ‘yes, but you have to carry my band’, and they were like ‘why can’t you just use tracks?’ But I said ‘no, mi nah go use tracks on a big show like that’,” Wonder told Loop Jamaica reporter Claude Mills.

“I didn’t hear back from them. It end up [that] they didn’t send me any ticket and that was it, no biggie… but yet still they put out stuff say I back out, but I didn’t back out; they never follow up back. They put out something say ‘my inability to perform’, but dem never reach out to finalise the ting,” the artist further stated..”

A spokesperson for the management team behind Unity Fest said, “The management team of Unity Fest Bermuda strongly disagrees with the sentiments expressed by reggae artist Wayne Wonder as published by loopjamaica.com; his comments are inconsistent with any correspondence and or legal documentation.

“However, we believe it would be counterproductive to engage in a back and forth over this as it will only undermine the essence of the event and all of those who worked so hard to bring Bermuda a First Class event.

“We look forward to having meaningful discussions with Wayne Wonder and his team in the near future as we believe ultimately that in the Reggae community we must work together and resolve our differences in an honorable manner.”
