Parliament: Audio & Order Of Business
[Updated with audio] The House of Assembly will be in session on Friday [Nov 15] and the only statement listed as scheduled to be delivered is the Premier on “Charting a path for the future while challenging the status quo to build a Bermuda that works for everyone,” while Bills scheduled to be introduced include the National Pension Scheme [Occupational Pensions] Temporary Amendment Act 2019, Internal Audit Amendment Act 2019, and Children [No. 2] Amendment Act 2019.
Update 10.52am: After a rather heated start to the morning, which saw the OBA object multiple times to Premier Burt reading the speech, the Speaker asked for a recess, and the audio is now listed as ‘suspended’. We aren’t sure whether it will come back or not, think it may, so are keeping our restream going for a while.
Update 11.08am: The audio is now back.
Update 11.30am: The Speaker has already ejected OBA Leader Craig Cannonier from the House, with Mr Cannonier, as well as other OBA MPs, repeatedly interjecting to complain that Premier Burt was reading what appeared to be a Throne Speech in “disguise.” Speaker Lister then ruled that the Premier could not continue with the speech.
Update: Live broadcast has concluded, and the audio of the morning session is below
The Order of Business here [PDF]:
The PLP are the status quo.
hold Strong Burt. oba don’t want the PM to talk
Real deal ahahaha thats how you feel? Give it a rest…Burt was using a statement to make a speech without giving the opposotion the chance to reply as you dont get a reply to a parliamentary statement, hence the interjections by point of orders. Burt is a crafty politician, but far from honest. He was trying to bypass the proper process. Well done for calling him out on his BS
explain what harm it done and why any response they have too any statement cant be submitted to the media?
Precisely the opposite. By sneaking his Throne Speech in by a statement, Burt is preventing the opposition from doing their constitutional duty and not allowing them to speak. He doesn’t want to hear it. Running scared!
the People of Bermuda want to hear what the PM has to say please tell the oba to hold their horse
You’ll be told exactly what they want you to hear. This isn’t democracy.
Actually it was the Speaker oh the House, the Honourable Dennis Lister, who stopped the Premier. It was not the oba
Brilliant from the OBA – pressuring Burt really well over the TS. Craig even got thrown out! Burt is just giving a Throne Speech – going through the so-called achievements.
This is NOT democracy
Burt has his foot on the throat of democracy – this is appalling stuff.
that was pure entertainment in the House. Great attack from the OBA, arrogance from Burt – who clearly does not want to entertain the idea of democracy.
wtf i did not get to hear the PM’s statement after the recess
Thank God the OBA stood up to the PLP..
The premier has & had explained he consulted the Governor, Senate Pres., the Speaker. If either of them had an issue in which the Premier was to proceed, then I’m sure, it would not have been allowed. Especially from the Governor! IJS……
The governors’ role is largely symbolic and he would rarely go against the govt of the day. Whilst the speaker is a PLP puppet and so he just gets pushed around and bows t9 the premiers wishes rather than do his job to arbitrate and maintain a certain standard of parliamentary behaviour…listen to the house on any friday and see the double standards he allows, he doesnt hold the PLP to any account.
Go troll more of Dunkley’s facebook posts Glenn, it’s lacking in some green atm.
YESSSSSSSS Mr. C and OBA !!! At last! At lonng last! Memo to Mr. Burt/PLP the governing of this island is not a monologue but a dialogue AND a democracy. Remember PLP you govern only at the pleasure of the people. You govern for ALL THE PEOPLE OF BERMUDA, not just a chosen few decided by you. STOP with the autocratic, third world behaviour. It has no place in modern day Bermuda.
I don’t know about that. It seems to be working in the US and the UK!

what harm could words do to them in this session? all i saw was the oba acting like spoiled children that did not get it their .
Burt did nothing wrong or illegal it is not his fault if the oba don’t know the rules of the game. as far as i am concern the changes where made to make the process more efficient and stream line for the wold we live in today. i wish i got the opportunity to hear the rest of his statement.
When burt said he was doing away with colonial traditions and challenging the status quo I had no idea he meant he was going to erode our democracy.
This is a sneak preview of how he and the PLP will act in an independent Bermuda.
Very scary times Bermuda.
