February 1, 2020

After signing a three-and-a-half-year deal with Bristol City, Bermuda’s Nahki Wells made his debut today [Feb 1] as the team matched up against Queens Park Rangers – the club where the striker was recently playing for on loan.

Wells started on the bench for Bristol, who took a 1-0 lead into the half time break with Famara Diédhiou scoring for Bristol.

At the 62nd minute of the game, Bristol City brought on Wells, with the 29-year-old Bermudian making his debut for his new team. Neither team scored for the remainder of the match, and Bristol claimed the 1-0 victory.

In announcing his signing earlier this week, Bristol City Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton said: “We are thrilled to welcome Nahki Wells to Bristol City, which is a really exciting transfer for us.

“Nahki is a player we have watched for a long time and we know just how talented he is with a goalscoring record that really does speak for itself.”

A video tweeted by Bristol City of the team’s arrival today showed fans enthusiastically greeting Wells, who stopped to sign autographs and pose for photos with people.

After he signed with Bristol, Wells — who is one of the top goal scorers in the Championship League — said, “It’s been a rollercoaster few days but I’m delighted to be here now and ready to start the new journey.

“Everything here is fantastic: the club, the facility, the stadium and everything looks like it is moving in the right direction and it’s something I’m looking forward to embracing very soon.”

Wells, has scored 15 goals in all competitions so far this season, added, “I’m in a good run of form, scoring goals of recent and I’m excited to try and carry on that form to help this club move in the direction they want to [be heading in],” he continued.

“I’m just a striker who’s hungry to score goals and do well, willing to work hard for the team, create and be among the attacking play. As a player I will always give 100 per cent and try to do what’s right by the team.

“I’ve always been known for scoring goals and trying to be in the right place at the right time so if the chances are being created, I know I will be able to score. We have players who create chances so I’m looking forward to getting on the end of that.”
