Services Suspended At Lamb Foggo Centre
Bermuda Hospitals Board said they are “suspending services” at the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre from today [April 4] “in order to focus much needed resources on the KEMH Emergency Department.”
Dr Chikezie Dean Okereke, Chief of Emergency, comments: “We have seen in other countries the strain that Emergency Departments have experienced due to an influx of COVID-19 patients, and the strain is compounded because staff themselves can also become sick or need to be quarantined, reducing overall resources.
“We have looked at how best to keep our emergency services open and running for Bermuda at this time of great challenge and anxiety for the community. We believe that we now need all of our available staff in the Emergency Department. We apologise for any inconvenience and remind people that they can travel during the 14 days of sheltering at home for emergency care.
“If people start experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or are worried they have been exposed, they do not need to panic. For many people this is a mild enough disease they can manage at home, with plenty of fluids and Tylenol, if needed.
“Please be aware of the risks of age and existing medical issues, or if symptoms get worse, call your doctor, the COVID-19 Hotline at 444-249, or the Emergency Department Telephone Triage at 239-2009. There is a COVID-19 symptom checklist assessment that can be found on both the BHB and Government websites to help you determine your course of action, but don’t just turn up if you think you need care. Always call first.”

Officials are urging everyone to please follow all guidance like washing your hands, adhering to self quarantine if relevant, and practicing social distancing, and they have asked that if it is not urgent, a necessity or work, to please stay home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Will the people who are being told to manage it at home be tested, sounds like they won’t and therefore won’t be included in the Bermuda statistic of cases. The numbers of reported cases is effectively woefully short of the real number. Logically anyone and everyone should be tested, but they will not be as we do not have enough test kits, Burt and his party were woefully unprepared. Well done to UK for sending us 1000 kits and a flight for returning Bermudians on Monday.
The one comfort you can take from this is that globally cases untested and recovered from are not being reported, ,meaning the death rate is much lower than it appears from looking at statistics. A bit of good news!!!!!! Stay safe sensible an safe people of Bermuda.
If they are symptomatic, they are tested. We do not test asymptomatic persons. Blood testing will be considered once available, this isn’t routinely executed worldwide either. The government are actually doing a great job considering test kits are difficult to obtain worldwide as well. Hence, the logic behind the shelter in place. Bermuda is doing better than several major countries, including the UK, based on the measures the govt have implemented. Be grateful.
UK sending 1800, so even more than I thought!!!! We can do this Bermuda!!!!
Sanitize Lamb Foggo and make it the Coronavirus center..
