Cannonier: “Govt Must Give Specific Guidelines”
“Government must give businesses specific advice on what is required to protect staff and customers against Covid-19 once they are allowed to re-open,” Craig Cannonier, the Leader of the One Bermuda Alliance said today.
Mr. Cannonier said, “Without guidance, some businesses will probably do the minimum, but others will go a lot further, spending money they don’t have right now. They have to know specifics, so people are properly protected, and money is not spent unnecessarily.
“They must also be given proper notice. Restaurants were given two days’ notice that they could do take-out trade, but then found they could not properly restock. As a result, many were not able to open for take-out until several days later. This lost them valuable sales as people were expecting them to be open.
“I raised this issue in the House last Friday. Businesses want to be pro-active and help where they can and are putting together plans for re-opening. Government has to talk to them and give them proper notice of any relaxation in the lockdown rules and specific guidelines they need to follow.”
