Video: Finance Minister & BEDC Director
Constant borrowing won’t lead to a favourable outcome, we all have to work together to get through this crisis, as far as our economic recovery ‘everything is on the table except those things that are not on the table’ and entrepreneurs need an ‘agenda for action’
Those are some of the things we heard today as Minister of Finance Curtis Dickinson and Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] Executive Director Erica Smith joined hosts Eron Hill and Ryan Robinson Perinchief for Bernews’ seventh episode in a special live streaming series.
The first segment featured Minister of Finance Curtis Dickinson who discussed a range of topics including the role banks can play, international business, taxation, spending and more, while BEDC Executive Director Erica Smith discussed topics including entrepreneurship, the role BEDC plays and how business may be changing in a post Covid-19 world.
The series takes place every Tuesday and Thursday, and is streaming on Bernews Facebook page, YouTube channel and Twitter account during the afternoon, and everyone is welcome to contribute ideas, topics, guest suggestions, or concepts as we move forward, as the aim is to have a community discussion.

BERMUDA DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH ” IRONS IN THE FIRE”.
Please explain “what is not on the table”. That sounds much more important than “everything is on the table”. Revenue is fluid, the massive problem is Government expenses which are pretty much fixed and need to be reduced to match the revenue reduction.
I listened and I’m not sure what my take-outs are. There did not seem to be anything concrete and I don’t think he was put on the spot enough times, especially over this: ‘everything is on the table except those things that are not on the table’
“Constant borrowing won’t lead to a favourable outcome, we all have to work together to get through this crisis”
Truer words were never spoken
Sounds great until you consider that the statement *we all have to work together to get through this crisis* which at first blush wins the hearts of all could well end up in them passing legislation to raid our bank accounts.
‘No’ you say? Remember what happened in Greece .
“everything is on the table except those things that are not on the table”…I shudder to think that in some circles this might seem a wise statement.
We need Immigration reform to make it easier for investors to come and work here. They won’t be taking jobs from locals. They are highly educated, and have years of experience.
If everything was on the table Mps would have taken an immediate 30 percent cut and the civil service 15 percent. As simple as that lead the way. The Plp removed Dunch from the casino committee and got nothing. In fact went back 5 steps.Dunch would have gotten it done. The plp get A for part one of the pandemic which was easy . ..informing the public. Now part 2 will force them to drop their outdated semi socialist beliefs that are pure rhetoric. Get ready to see the molasses move when they do nothing like the last 5 reports. This time the masses who object and protest must have a plan. No plan …..anarchy.Plus both parties need Senators who are brighter smarter and active….we dont need silent people who have post ops done for them…..we need strong action minded Senators. As simple as that.
For weeks Burt has said “everything is on the table”.
So now we find out certain things were never on the table.
What a surprise.
