Teekay Donates $10,000 To Local Charities
Teekay Corporation donated to three charities to assist with their operational expenses during the Covid-19 pandemic, with funds allocated to the Centre Against Abuse, Age Concern and the Bermuda Sailor’s Home.
A spokesperson said, “In keeping with Teekay Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility goals for 2020, the Teekay Bermuda office donated $10,000.00 to support community organizations during the COVID 19 pandemic.
“The COVID 19 pandemic has placed an unprecedented financial strain on many helping agencies and in an effort to provide some financial aid the following funds were donated to three organizations:- Centre Against Abuse [$5,000], Age Concern [$2,500], and the Bermuda Sailor’s Home [$2,500].
“Although Bermuda has now entered Phase 4, there is still a dire need to support the agencies who are dedicated to assisting community members that are facing challenges.”
Laurie Shiell-Smith, Executive Director of Centre Against Abuse [CAA] said “CAA is extremely grateful for the $5,000 charitable donation received from Teekay. On behalf of our clients we thank you for supporting the work that we do in the community to maintain their safety. These funds will assist our clients with obtaining Domestic Violence Protection Orders [DVPO] from the courts, which is a major component of safety planning.”
Executive Director of Age Concern Bermuda, Dr Claudette Fleming said “Teekay Corporation stands among the many corporate donors who have supported our essential service work in this unprecedented time of Covid-19 and Shelter in Place.
“Age Concern’s services and presence have brought a degree of safety and reassurance to older adults in the community, particularly those in need of food and hardship support or those who simply need access to discounts that help their pension dollars stretch a little further. On behalf of the seniors we serve, we express our appreciation for helping to make our work possible.”
Chairman of the Bermuda Sailor’s Home, Bob Greig commented on the donation and thanked Teekay Corporation for choosing BSH as a donor recipient. He said it was fantastic to see that seafarers’ welfare is a priority of Teekay Corporation and the donated funds will support the BSH activities of providing a place of rest and recreation for crew members.
The company added, “Teekay Corporation was established in 1973, and has developed from a regional shipping company into one of the world’s largest marine energy transportation companies. Teekay’s headquarters is in Vancouver, Canada and they have maintained a presence in Bermuda since 2008. On behalf of the Teekay Bermuda staff and in true Teekay SPIRIT, we hope the donations will provide some relief to persons who are facing hardships and distress during this time of unchartered waters.”
