Goater Assists In FIFA Draw, Bermuda In Group B
Concacaf’s road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 reached an important milestone as the draw for the qualifying competition took place today, with Bermudian Shaun Goater featured prominently in the draw.
Mr Goater was prominently featured in the video, which was streamed online and shown on Telemundo, with the host calling him “the greatest footballer in the history of Bermuda” and the on-screen graphic calling him a “FIFA Legend.”

Concacaf’s road to Qatar 2022 will feature 35 teams vying for 3.5 slots to the World Cup, with Bermuda drawn in Group B alongside Canada, Suriname, the Cayman Islands and Aruba.
The full results of today’s draw:
First round:
- Group A: El Salvador, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Montserrat and US Virgin Islands
- Group B: Canada, Suriname, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Aruba
- Group C: Curacao, Guatemala, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba and British Virgin Islands
- Group D: Panama, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Dominica and Anguilla
- Group E: Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, St. Lucia and Turks and Caicos Islands
- Group F: Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Puerto Rico and Bahamas
The six group winners from the first round will play in a home-and-away, direct-elimination format:
- 1A v 1F – winner will be W1
- 1B v 1E – winner will be W2
- 1C v 1D – winner will be W3
The three winners above will then join the five highest-ranked nations in Concacaf, according to the FIFA Ranking on 16 July 2020, in the final round of qualifying: Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras.
