BTA Launches WTTC “Safe Travels” Application

October 16, 2020

Safe Travels Bermuda October 2020COVID-19-safe businesses across the island now have the opportunity to earn the World Travel & Tourism Council [WTTC] “Safe Travels” Stamp.

A spokesperson said, “COVID-19-safe businesses across the island now have the opportunity to earn the World Travel & Tourism Council [WTTC] ‘Safe Travels’ Stamp, thanks to a programme launched today at the annual Bermuda Tourism Summit.

“Eleven hospitality businesses are the first in Bermuda to earn the globally-recognised safety designation, after meeting robust health and hygiene standards.

“The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] launched the WTTC initiative last month for a pilot group of businesses certified under the National Service Standards Programme [NSSP]. To date, 11 have been approved for the special seal, which they can display to tell the world they’re safe. The programme is now open to all tourism-related businesses.”

“The WTTC empowered the BTA to issue the stamp to local businesses meeting the highest COVID-19 public-health standards recommended by the World Health Organisation and the Centers for Disease Control [CDC]. NSSP businesses approved to date are: Barracuda Grill; Bermuda Visitor Services Centres [three locations]; Dolphin Quest Bermuda; Flanagan’s Irish Pub; Frog and Onion; Hog Penny; Lili Bermuda Perfumery [two locations]; Pickled Onion; Royal Palms Hotel; Tobacco Bay; and Tuckinn Rentals. Each now has a Safe Travels badge displaying on their business profile on GoToBermuda.com.

“Details on the programme and how to apply for the Safe Travels Stamp at no cost can be found on the BTA website. Businesses should first review the Bermuda Tourism Health & Safety Guide to ensure they align with expected global protocols for their respective sectors. They can then apply under the tourism sector most relevant to their business via an online form.

“The WTTC is one of several global bodies that have recognised Bermuda for its successful management of the pandemic to date. The CDC ranked the island among just four countries assessed at Level 2 risk. In the UK, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office allowed returning British residents from Bermuda to forego a 14-day quarantine.”

“We’re proud to recognise this first group of successful applicants with a Safe Travels Stamp, and we’re thrilled to invite the wider tourism community to join this worthwhile initiative,” said BTA Director of People Tracy Berkeley. “The WTTC brand delivers valuable global recognition and helps build trust and confidence that benefits both visitors and residents.”
