BPS Welcome Guilty Verdict In Firearm Case
The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] said they welcome “the guilty verdict as well as the sentence handed down in the matter against James Rumley, who was charged for importing firearms components.”
Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge – Serious Crime Division said, “We support Mr. Justice Wolffe that a crystal clear message had to be sent to others who may be considering similar action.
“This outcome is the result of hundreds of hours of investigative work headed by lead investigator, Detective Sergeant Dean Martin in co-operation with partner agencies, not the least of which is H.M. Customs.”
Detective Superintendent Pedro added, “The vigilance of our colleagues at that department resulted in the detection and seizure of these components, thus preventing a dangerous weapon from being assembled and making it on to the street.
“We agree with Ms. Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, that there was no lawful use for these components.”
