CURB: Dr. Eva Hodgson Racial Justice Award

May 24, 2021

In recognition of the one-year anniversary of the passing of Dr. Eva N. Hodgson, Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda [CURB] is launching the Dr. Eva N. Hodgson Racial Justice Award.

A spokesperson said, “In recognition of the one-year anniversary [29th May] of the passing of racial justice advocate Dr. Eva N. Hodgson, and as a way to honor Dr. Eva Hodgson’s passion and commitment to racial justice advocacy, CURB launches the Dr. Eva N. Hodgson Racial Justice Award.

“The Award is open to organizations, businesses, not-for-profit organisations, groups, communities, and individuals in Bermuda. Through the Dr. Eva N. Hodgson Racial Justice Award, we seek to highlight an individual and/or organization in the Bermuda community that has advocated and continues to work toward the advancement of racial justice and equity.

“We are grateful for the support of Dr. Hodgson’s family in bringing this award to the people of Bermuda in honour of her memory and lifelong work. Criteria, eligibility, and submission details will be provided at a later date.

“Dr. Hodgson’s almost 8 decades long fight for racial justice and the tragic murder of George Floyd last year has re-emphasized the urgency to address the structures of racial inequity in our communities. CURB has noted the increasing number of organizations, faith communities and groups that have launched efforts to bring about greater racial equity in their community in the past year.

“The launch of the Award reflects CURB’s strongly held commitment to justice, equity and equality and the belief that organizations and individuals can become dynamic agents for social change in their communities.”
