Video: Motorcade To Celebrate Flora Duffy
Flora Duffy is scheduled to arrive today [Oct 11], with Bermuda’s first Olympic gold medalist to travel from the airport to Hamilton via a special celebratory motorcade.
The 2 hour and 24-minute live video replay is below:
A spokesperson previously said, “On Monday at 2.15 pm, following the receipt of her arrival Covid-19 PCR test results, Flora will travel from the L.F. Wade International Airport to Hamilton via a special motorcade. Once in Hamilton, Ms. Duffy will stop at the Cabinet Office where she will meet with local dignitaries for a special presentation.
The motorcade route details are as follows:
- 2.15 pm the motorcade will travel from the airport, passing schools on the route.
Route: North shore past Flatts Village > Middle road to Tee Street > South Road to Middle Road until Manse Road on to Harbour Road > Circle Warwick Academy via Morgan’s Road > Back to Middle Road to the Cabinet Office presentation.
- 2.45 pm – Motorcade arrives at the Cabinet Office grounds for an outdoor presentation.
- 3.30 pm – Motorcade will travel to City Hall for a presentation.
“The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport welcomed members of the public to show their national pride by lining the motorcade route and waving their Bermuda flags and cheering Flora on as she passes.”
“The Ministry urged the public to do so in a responsible and safe way. This means not congregating in large groups, maintaining the appropriate physical distance and wearing a mask if within 6 feet of persons who are not from your household.”
Today’s motorcade is being held in advance of the ‘Flora Duffy Day’ public holiday on October 18th, which will include the renaming of the National Sports Centre Stadium to the Flora Duffy Stadium, the renaming of Corkscrew Hill to Flora Duffy Hill, a special recognition by the Bermuda Post Office, an artistic mural announcement, a Flora Duffy statue being commissioned and an open air Tribute Concert.
Surprised that nobody has picked up on it but how the heck is she supposed to cover all that distance, at a reasonable speed, in 30 minutes?
She could probably run it quicker than that.
What an amazing turnout !
If standing on the podium and accepting the gold was the highlight of Flora’s life this must surely tie it .
I’m not crying, you’re crying!
So proud of Flora! What an amazing athlete!
Well done!
OK – so I am required to stay at home until my clear arrival test but having a gold medal
Sure, why don’t you go win a gold medal in not just running, not just swimming and not just biking, BUT ALL THREE then you might be able to do a rapid test at the airport.
Such a hater!! Get a life.
I have a life but it is incredible that rules can be broken by the privileged few while myself and others are crucified if we even attempt to leave home before the arrival test results!!! You get a life!!!
er , hasn’t it already been announced that Flora was tested at the airport and was neg BEFORE she left the terminal ?
Sometimes special circumstances require special arrangements.
But instead you want to pull out the ever so overused ‘privilege’ word.
“Privilege”, it’s like “racist” and ketchup. You can put it on anything…means nothing.
Thank you Flora .
I’ll keep my comments about the crowds to myself.
OMG! Enough already! She hasn’t cured cancer!
Try to contain your jealousy. It doesn’t look good on you.
