Olympic champion Flora Duffy delivered a message brimming with national pride during Flora Duffy Day, with paraphrased quotes from the speech — “I Am From Bermuda” — featured on the latest designs in Bernews weekly Wallpaper Wednesday series. Her poignant speech was extremely well received, quickly surpassing over 25,000 video views on Bernews, and earning wide accolades.
The island held a national holiday on Monday [Oct 18] with a number of events taking place including the renaming of Corkscrew Hill to Flora Duffy Hill, the stadium being renamed in her honour, the unveiling of commemorative stamps, and a Tribute Concert, where Flora Duffy delivered the “I Am From Bermuda” speech.
Flora Duffy — often described as one of the greatest triathletes of all time – is a 10 time world champion and Bermuda’s first ever Olympic gold medalist, with her win making the island the smallest country in the world to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
