Caribbean Tsunami Exercise To Be Conducted

March 9, 2022

Bermuda will join regional Disaster Management Agencies in the Caribbean for a tsunami response exercise on March 10, 2022.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Renee Ming JP, MP, will deliver the opening address to the exercise participants, expected to run from 9 am until 12 pm.

“The exercise, titled CARIBE WAVE 22, will be conducted virtually and simulate a widespread Tsunami Threat throughout the Caribbean and adjacent regions, which requires the implementation of national and local tsunami response plans.

“Representatives from on-island key stakeholder agencies will take part in discussions to develop further tsunami contingency plans for this infrequent but potentially devastating event.

“The exercise is sponsored by the UNESCO/IOC Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions [ICG/CARIBE-EWS], the Caribbean Emergency Management Agency [CDEMA], the Centro de Coordinación para la Prevención de los Desastres Naturales en América Central [CEPREDENAC], EMIZ Antilles and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [NOAA].”
