Ridvan 2022 To ‘Mark A Special Milestone’

April 21, 2022

The Bermudian Baha’i national community will host its 42nd National Convention in the Baha’i National Centre in the City of Hamilton.

A spokesperson said, “Ridvan 2022 will mark a special milestone in the Bermudian Baha’i community and throughout the Baha’i world.

“For the past two years the Bermudian community, like the rest of Bermuda’s Faith institutions were deprived of in-house gatherings, in our centres, our citadels, our churches, our halls, our synagogues, our temples, our meeting places, due to the coronavirus and its regulations.

“So, this year, the Bermudian Baha’i national community will host its 42nd National Convention in the Baha’i National Centre on Brunswick Street in the City of Hamilton.

“The nineteen Delegates representing the Island’s three regions: west, central and east, will gather at the Centre to elect the Nine Members of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Bermuda – the governing body of the Bermudian community. This is their primary function.

“Whilst Naw-Ruz, is the Baha’i New Year, the Festival of Ridvan commemorates the twelve days that Baha’u’llah, Prophet-Founder of the Baha’i Faith spent in the Ridvan garden before leaving Baghdad for the Prison City of Akka, formerly Palestine, now Israel where He was banished by the Ottoman Empire.

“The first, ninth and twelfth days of the festival of Ridvan are specially observed as Holy Days and work is suspended.

“In was in this garden that Baha’u’llah announced to several of His followers that He was the Promised One whose coming was foretold by all the Prophets of the past. It was there He assumed the name Baha’u’llah, which means “The Glory of God”. His followers then became known as Baha’is.

“This occurred on the first day of Ridvan 1863 and exactly 100-years later on the first day of Ridvan 1963 the first election for The Universal House of Justice was held on Mount Carmel Haifa, Israel and every five years thereafter. At the same time thousands of Baha’is from all over the world gathered at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the first Baha’i World Jubilee.

“Baha’u’llah states that ‘the purpose for which mortal men have, from utter nothingness, stepped into the realm of being, is that they may work for the betterment of the world and live together in concord and harmony’. He has revealed teachings that make this possible.

“Building a society that consciously pushes this collective purpose is the work of not only this generation, but of many generations to come, Baha’u’llah’s followers welcome all who labour alongside them in this undertaking.

“At Ridvan 2022 Baha’is will embark on a Nine Year Plan, the provisions of which generally focus on: Baha’u’llah’s vision for humanity; Reflections on the endeavors of the Baha’i community over the last one hundred years worldwide; for Bermuda over the past ninety-three years from the time of the first Baha’i, from North America to visit Bermuda in 1929; Building vibrant communities; Educational endeavors and the training and empowerment of our young people; contributing to Bermuda’s social transformation.

“On Sunday, 24 April the Baha’is of Hamilton Parish will host its monthly Last Sunday of the month Spiritual Gathering at 11am to which you are warmly invited to joins us on Zoom, its Link is listed below.

“All Local Baha’i institutions are elected the first day of Ridvan, National bodies are elected during the twelve days and every five years the international administrative body, The Universal House House of Justice is elected. Its quinquennial convention is held at the Baha’i World Centre.
