ICO Decision On Bermuda Police Service
The Information Commissioner issued Decision 16/2022 in regards to the Bermuda Police Service [BPS].
A spokesperson said, “On 19 May 2022, the Information Commissioner issued Decision 16/2022, Bermuda Police Service [BPS]. The Applicant had submitted a public access to information [PATI] request to the BPS seeking records relating to conduct and other matters.
“The Information Commissioner found that the BPS did not issue an internal review decision to the Applicant within the 6-week timeline set out in the PATI Act. However, during the Information Commissioner’s independent review, the BPS issued an internal review decision for the PATI request. As a result, the Information Commissioner does not require the BPS to take any further action with respect to Decision 16/2022.
“This Decision does not address whether the BPS has properly denied access to the requested records. Rather, it addresses the basic obligation upon the BPS to respond to an internal review request within the statutory timeframe. Decision 16/2022 is available on www.ico.bm.”
