Eunice Veronica Sharpe Memorial Award
The first student to be honoured with the Eunice Veronica Sharpe Memorial Award will be named at the Francis Patton School in Hamilton Parish.
A spokesperson said, “The presentation will occur at the School’s Annual Leaving Ceremony which is set for the week of 13 June.
“Established by the Baha’is of Hamilton parish in honour of the late Mrs. Eunice Sharpe the award was a way for the local community to mark the 100th anniversary commemoration last November, 21 of the Ascension of ‘ Abdu’l-Baha, 1921-2021, son of the Founder of the Baha’i Faith, Baha’u’llah.
“Born and bred in the Cottage Hill area of Hamilton Parish, the late Mrs. Sharpe rendered many services to the School where her children attended, and today one of her children teaches at the Primary School.
“In accordance with the Writings of the Baha’i Faith: ‘Children are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future…. An atmosphere needs to be maintained in which children feel they belong to the community and share in its purpose…The primary, the most urgent requirement is the promotion of education. It is inconceivable that any nation should achieve prosperity and success unless this paramount, this fundamental concern is carried forward’.
“We all must strive to empower, encourage and foster the potential our young people, and nurture them to strive to acquire those qualities and attributes—such as trustworthiness, cooperation, and forbearance—that are the real building blocks of a stable social society.
“The student, chosen by the School, reflects and mirrors those attributes and qualities of Mrs. Sharpe who was always cheerful, courteous, friendly, articulate and her face was always wreathed in smiles.
“In addition to the student’s personal Memorial plaque, a Bermuda Cedar plaque is placed in the School bearing the successful student’s name and the year presented.”
