Pacers Track Club To Compete In North Carolina
Members of the Bermuda Pacers Track Club will return to the 2022 Russell E. Blunt Eastcoast Invitational Track Meet in Durham, North Carolina.
This will mark the 40th year that the club has competed in this event, which is hosted by the Durham Striders Track Club and will be held at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
The event — which was cancelled for the past 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic — will see 81 teams representing over 1000 athletes between the ages of 8 to 18 compete in 49 individual events and 3 different relays.
The 22-member Bermuda team will compete in 38 individual events and 3 relay events. The event will be held from Friday, July 22nd, through to Sunday, July 24th, 2022.
The team will be led by Carifta athletes Shayla Cann and Denver Tucker. Cann who will be making a debut appearance at the meet will compete in the 17-18 girls 400 and 800 meters, while Tucker will compete in the 15-16 boys 100 and 200 meters.
Seer Carey and Jayden Grant will also compete in the 15-16 boys’ division, in the 200 and 400 meters. I’Arura Golding the lone competitor in the 15-16 girls’ division will compete in the 200 and 100 meter hurdles. Saj Carey older brother to Seer Carey will be the lone competitor in the 17-18 boys 100 and 200 meters.
The team has a full list of 13-14 girls competing in the meet. 400 meter and middle-distance specialists and Carifta athletes Ellise Dickinson and Jadea Grant will lead this age division.
Grant will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000 meters while Dickinson will compete in the 200 and 400 meters. Other teammates in the division are Arima Turner, Pria Wilson and Lashae Jones will all compete in the 100 and 200 meters.
Day’asha Dill and Amaris Munya two other distance runners will compete in the 400, 800 and 1500 meters respectively. This same group of young girls will also compete in the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays.
The team will also have a full list of athletes in the 13-14 boys division. Carifta athlete Miles Outerbridge will lead this division. Outerbridge and teammates Malik Paynter, and Andre Hollinsid will compete in the 100 and 200 meters. Seasoned REB/ECI athlete Daylen Scott with compete in the long jump, 200, and 400 meters. This same group of young boys will also compete in the 4X100 meter relay.
In the 11-12 girls division, the team will have Kelise Wade, Antoinette Barry and Riana Robinson compete in the 400, 800 and 1500 meters respectively.
In the 9-10 girls divisions the team will have the Fastest Kid on the Rock Champion Jasmine Reid-Rubaine competing in the long jump, 100 and 200 meters.
The youngest member of the team is Teagan Scott-Hanley, she will compete in the 8 and Under Girl’s division in the 200 and 400 meters.
Both young athletes will be making their debut appearance at the REB/ECI track meet. The team will be accompanied by Bermuda Pacer executive officers, coaches, and parents.
