OBA MP Scott Pearman On Equality Act
“The Premier chose to be political, voting to stop an OBA Bill that would combat inequality and enhance penalties for those who discriminate against workers,” Shadow Minister for Home Affairs & Legal Affairs Scott Pearman said today.
Mr Pearman said, “The decision by the Burt Administration to vote down the OBA’s Equality Act shows how partisan our Island has become.
“The OBA tabled the Equality Act on 10 December 2021 – International Human Rights Day – in order to enhance Bermuda’s human rights laws and combat inequality.
“For the past seven months, the Burt Administration has had every opportunity to raise issues with the Bill, to propose amendments, or even to take over and make it a Government Bill.
“Instead, the Premier chose to be political, voting to stop an OBA Bill that would combat inequality and enhance penalties for those who discriminate against workers.
“When proposed legislation is criticised both for doing too little, and for going too far, the ideas are likely right on target.
“The Government said they were voting the Bill down because they had technical issues with the drafting. Yet this Government had seven months to work together with us if they wanted to improve the OBA’s proposals.
“We are grateful to the Government MPs who did not join their PLP colleagues in voting down the Equality Act. We must work together to solve Bermuda’s problems.
“Despite this setback, the One Bermuda Alliance will continue to fight for a better Bermuda. Next time we hope more MPs will have the courage to put progress ahead of party.”
The PLP. Continuing to fail Bermudians every single day.
“The decision by the Burt Administration to vote down the OBA’s Equality Act shows how partisan our Island has become.”
Really? That is the best the OBA can offer? No wonder the OBA is down 30 to 6!
Address the message not the messenger. I’ll wait.
What message? Is Mr. Pearman complaining that Bermuda is practicing politics as usual?
The arrogance of the man in charge together with some of his opprobrious lackeys has once again shown the island the real agenda of a selected few. The real interest is not a quality Bermuda, but an outright abhorrence of collective responsibility from selected Bermudians.
Wow!!! This guy is BLAH!!! BLAH!!! BLAH!!!
Vote hunter!!!!
Address the message, go on, I dare you. I’ll wait.
The inability to actually debate the topic by this person is unfortunately not worth commenting on. They are part of that crowd who only knows party colors.
Having said that, Pearman should have said that parliamentary politics have become divisive. Not Bermuda although it is too.
You’ll be waiting for a long time . You ought to know that by now.
The absolute last thing the PLP want is for everyone to be treated equally and fairly.
Plp supporters only see what they are told to see ..they will believe only what they are told to believe ..it is sad but they dont have the desire for fear of returning to the dark ages as that is the plp political election platform…so dont expect anything else but 30-6 …but believe it or not green team supporters you and your politicians are responsible for $3 billion in debt they want to talk about the airport income guarantees but when tourism returns no more will go out but lets talk about the Hospital where every quarter , millions are paid out for the same revenue guarantee that will never be met now thats what 30-6 gets you
