Sailing: Smith & Kempe Compete In France
The 2022 EurILCA Senior European Championships & Open European Trophy continued at Cercle Organisation du Yachting de Compétition Hyèrois [COYCH] in Hyeres, France, with Bermuda’s Sebastian Kempe and Benn Smith competing.
The second day started with fantastic sailing conditions and winds of 15 to 20 knots, dropping to 12 at the end.
In a fleet of 169, the sailors have completed four races in the series, with Kempe coming off the water in 108th with 89 points, while Smith is 129th with 113 points.
The reigning 2021 EurILCA Senior European champion Michael Beckett showed a terrific performance and took the ILCA 7’s leadership with four points after scoring two wins.
The 2020 Senior European champion Elliot Hanson is second with seven, while in third place overall is Jonatan Vadnai with nine.
Kempe finished the first race of the day in 27th and the second race in 31st. Kempe then finished 31st in the third race, before finishing 38th in the fourth and final race of the day.
Smith crossed the line 42nd in the first race, 30th in the second race, 42nd in the third race, and 41st in the fourth race.
