Residents “May Encounter Unpleasant Odours”

The Ministry of Public Works advises that it will begin its Biannual Septage Disposal Operations on January 23 and ”residents near the Marsh Folly Composting facility may encounter unpleasant odours.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works advises that it will begin its Biannual Septage Disposal Operations commencing Monday, 23 January until Friday, 27 January.

“As a result of these operations, residents near the Marsh Folly Composting facility may encounter unpleasant odours. However, despite the odours, the Ministry assures residents and the general public that there is no risk to the environment.

“The working hours will be from 7.30 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily.

“As a note, the process is as follows:

  • “The Tynes Bay Septage Receiving Facility collects residential and commercial cesspit waste from around the Island.
  • “Every six months, the Tynes Bay Septage Receiving Facility must remove these waste solids, and transport them to Marsh Folly.
  • “The Ministry uses the best health and safety and environmental practices while executing these procedures.

“The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their patience, cooperation and understanding while these necessary works are conducted.”
