BWS Issue Gale Warning, Thunderstorm Advisory
[Updated with video] The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] has issued a Gale Warning valid for late this morning to this evening, and Thunderstorm Advisory valid for this afternoon.
The BWS posted the graphic online below, saying, “Quite a windy day so far Bermuda! Windy conditions are expected to continue through tonight with wet weather developing.
“The heaviest rain, showers and embedded thunderstorms and strongest winds and gusts are expected during afternoon to early evening. During the afternoon to early evening, storm force to hurricane force GUSTS [brief increases in the sustained winds], in the range of 50-65 knots, are expected, especially in and around the heavier showers and any thunderstorms.
“A gale warning is in effect for late this morning to this evening, a Thunderstorm Advisory is in effect for this afternoon and a Small Craft Warning is in effect from Late This Evening through Wednesday night.
Update 1.05pm: A Government spokesperson said, “As the public is aware, the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] issued a severe weather advisory earlier this morning.
“According to the BWS, this afternoon, the island will experience severe rain with the likelihood of thunderstorms; strong gale force wind gusts, with some gusts reaching storm force to hurricane force.
“In light of the unsettled weather, the Ministry of National Security encourages the public to take any necessary safety precautions. In particular, motorists should exercise extra caution when travelling on the roads during their afternoon commutes.
