BELCO Offer $500 Prize For E-Billing Users
In honour of Earth Day, BELCO announced a prize draw for a $500 BELCO gift certificate for customers who use e-billing.
A spokesperson said, “BELCO is committed to sustainability and is working to change the Company’s business practices including reducing paper use. Every month more than 12,400 bills are printed and mailed, and customers can help reduce this paper use by switching to e-billing.
“Switching to paperless billing is easy. Customers can send an e-mail to info@belco.bm to sign up. Paper production uses enormous amounts of energy and water and is a major cause of deforestation, carbon emissions and climate change. By opting to receive e-bills, customers can help save trees, energy and water and reduce carbon emissions for a more sustainable planet.
“To encourage more customers to make the change, all customers with paperless bills will be entered into a draw which will take place on May 31, 2023, with the winner receiving a $500 BELCO gift voucher.
“BELCO first offered e-billing in February 2009 and of the Company’s approximately 36,000 customers, just over 65% receive e-bills.
“For paper bills, each statement is printed, folded by a machine, and inserted into envelopes, sealed, and taken to the post office for delivery within 2-5 business days to customers. However, for e-bills, customers will receive their statements the same day their meter is read, and their account is billed. E-billed statements can go to many different recipients without additional printing or posting and are also accessible via belco.bm.”
BELCO President, Wayne Caines said: “We have been offering e-bills for almost 15 years and most of our customers use this service, which is more efficient, cost-effective and better for the environment than printing and posting paper bills. I encourage customers who haven’t signed up for e-bills yet to do so and be entered into a draw to receive a $500 BELCO gift certificate. Receiving an e-bill helps save resources and by working together, we can make a sustainable difference.”
