The Warwick Academy Department of Modern Foreign Languages recently held their annual Secondary International Day.
A spokesperson said, “The Warwick Academy Department of Modern Foreign Languages is excited to be once again be able to hold their annual Secondary International Day. This day is a celebration of cultural diversity and unity, much enjoyed by the school community. The primary school will celebrate their International Day next week.
“There is a whole school grub day with proceeds going to the Bermuda Red Cross and UNICEF. Students wore the colours of a chosen flag, national dress, their favourite football jersey, or were dressed in clothing that reflects their heritage.
“The International Day started with a special secondary assembly, where In Motion dancers put on a beautiful dance, music from Brazil and Europe was enjoyed, and finished off with our two student Gombeys entertaining with ‘whoops’ resonating from around the hall.
“During the school day, students are involved in lessons with an international flavour, bringing in different cultures to each class. In the afternoon, after the lunch break, students participated in a variety of workshops or activities including Scottish dancing, art, jump rope, salsa dancing, music workshops, and cooking.
“At recess, students had an opportunity to sample a variety of foods from around the world. Many parents and students brought in a portion of food to share, celebrating their heritage, and the dishes were labeled with their country of origin. Everything from Scottish shortbread, to Canadian maple and bacon cookies, to South African Mince Bobotie, and so much more. An unbelieve amount of food celebrating almost every culture and country imaginable.”
