Fight City Muay Thai and Fitness will send a team of ten athletes to compete at the annual TBA Muay Thai Expo World Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, next month.

The Classic, running from June 21-25, is the largest Muay Thai tournament in the world, with more than 1,000 amateur competitors vying for honours in various weight classes and experience divisions.

Representing the Pitts Bay Road gym will be Ashton Outerbridge, Aiden Outerbridge and Rhiannon Morgan [Junior Novice Debut]; Savannah Attride-Sterling, Ashleigh Mayo and Gabriel Scott [Novice Debut]; Keron Lee [Senior Novice]; Paolo Fiandesio [Novice]; and Jay Astwood and Tyler Kerr [B Class].

Chuck Morgan, Nikki Stoudt, Ashton Bell and Nichola Littlejohn are the team’s coaches.

Morgan, the head coach, said several members of the travelling contingent are making their competitive debuts in Des Moines, including three juniors.

“Muay Thai is really growing in Bermuda,” Morgan told Bernews. “There are more opportunities for our youth and adult competitors, and that’s awesome.”

Morgan, the WBC MuayThai Bermuda chairman, added: “Twins Aiden and Ashton have shown real promise and have been very dedicated since joining us. I would be surprised if they don’t return with at least a silver medal.”

Morgan said the team benefitted from a bespoke session with psychologist Dr Tony Tucci, brought to the island by Five Rings, an organisation led by Olympian Jenny Smatt, earlier this month.

Tucci, of My360Mindset, is a fully licenced psychologist specialising in performance psychology with more than 11 years of clinical experience and more than eight years of trauma-informed care in the education system.

Fight City Muay Thai Fitness is sponsored by Cavello Bay Designs, 441 Media, Torres Painting and Maintenance, and The Mental Muay Thai Coach.
