The 2023 Deloitte Open Pickleball Tournament recently concluded, with some 120 entrants — ranging from 10 to 78 years old — taking part in the event.
A spokesperson said, “Congratulations to all our semi-finalists and finalists! Especially those who made multiple appearances on Championship Monday – including Alvaro Triana who took home two first place medals.
“We had 120 entrants in the pickleball tournament – up from 50 last year. Players ranged from 10 to 78 years old! We had events at 3.49 & below that attracted some top intermediates along with some players brand new to the sport. Amazing talent from those who entered at the 3.5-3.99 skill level and the island’s top players in the 4.0 & above category. 27 hours of competition.
“It has been a challenge to manage so many players and so many events on 4 courts but Mother Nature was super kind to us and much was learned for future pickleball events. Helping us wrap up Championship Monday were a large group of juniors who took to the courts to hit with 4.0 players Mark Cordeiro and Noah Browne!
“Thank you to Mark and Noah and to all the other helpers involved in the running of this tournament – admin before/during/after the tournament, score-keeping, setting up and packing up, the provision of tents for shade, Paul and Wendy Lawrence for our finals night barbecue… and to the spectators for providing so much energy throughout the event. Finally a very big thank you to Deloitte for once again sponsoring pickleball!!
