Guinness World Records Lists Duffy Again
Dame Flora Duffy — who already gave Bermuda a Guinness World Record listing as the smallest country in the world to win a Summer Olympic gold medal — has achieved another record in the publication, who have now classified her as having the “most wins of the triathlon World Championships [female].”
The listing says, “The most wins of the World Triathlon Series [formerly known as the ITU Triathlon World Championships] by a female is 4, achieved by Flora Duffy [Bermuda] in 2016–17 and 2021–22. Duffy claimed the 2022 World Triathlon Series women’s title at the series finale in Abu Dhabi on 25 November, winning the race in a time of 1:53:24. The ITU Triathlon World Championship was a single-race event that ran from 1989 to 2008, when it was replaced by a multi-race series format.”
While Dame Flora is listed twice in the Guinness World Record she actually has a myriad of notable accomplishments and records, as in addition to her Olympic gold medal and Commonwealth Gold Medals, she is also the only triathlete in the world to win six Xterra world titles and the only person to win three triathlon world titles in the same year, which she did back in 2016, claiming the WTS, ITU Cross Triathlon, and Xterra titles.
Bermuda’s listings in the Guinness World Records also include the first deep-ocean dive back in 1934, the highest daily municipal solid waste [MSW] generated by a country per capita, and we also have the dubious distinction of being listed as holding the record for the highest cost of living.
Go Flora!
