Three Art Exhibitions To Open At BSOA
This Friday, the Bermuda Society of Arts [BSOA] will host three new exhibitions by local artists. The exhibitions consist of a group show and two solo shows.
A spokesperson said, “The Onions Gallery is home to the exhibition titled, UNRULY, the brain child of Zina Edwards. Artists were contacted to come up with work that reflects the theme.
Ms Edwards describes UNRULY: “Like many other Black people in Bermuda and across the African diaspora, I have been entangled in the dynamics of Black hair from childhood. My curls and coils, perms, and braids, have been a part of my personal expression, a marker of my ancestral heritage, and [since my transition to natural in 1989] as a totem of my personal freedom despite societal demands to tame it. The barbershop maintains its place as a key social space for Black men. The act of braiding our children’s, partners or elders hair is an intimate experience that strengthens bonds and builds memories that are unique to the culture.”
“The Edinburgh Gallery will feature the first ever solo exhibition Introducing Larussy Romero: A Journey of Abstract Art and Divine Inspiration.
