Michael Findlay Appointed National Football Coach
The Bermuda Football Association [BFA] announced the appointment of Michael Findlay as the new Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach.
A spokesperson said, “A seasoned professional with a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence, Findlay brings a dynamic vision to the team, positioning them for success in upcoming tournaments and beyond.
“Hailing from both Canadian and United Kingdom origins, Michael Findlay has carved an impressive path in the world of football, marked by his dedication to elevating the sport’s standards and nurturing emerging talent. His extensive coaching journey includes significant milestones:
“Grenada Men’s National Team Program: Head Coach and Manager of Football Development. Including the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2021.
“FIFA Technical Consultant: Findlay’s invaluable insights were sought by FIFA’s Development Department, where he provided technical consulting to member associations.
“Canadian Premier League: As the Director of Football Development, Findlay played an integral role in the Canadian Premier League’s mission to enhance domestic football talent.
“Canadian Soccer Association: Serving as Head Coach, Assistant Coach, U23 Head Coach, and Youth Teams Head Coach. Assistant Coach during FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaigns, including Qatar 2022 and Russia 2018
Selection Process and Exciting Future
“The selection process for the new Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach was meticulous and thorough, with over 70 applicants with varying backgrounds and qualifications. The BFA firmly believes that Michael Findlay’s appointment marks a new era for the team, defined by innovation, strategic brilliance, and a dedication to nurturing emerging soccer talent.
“I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the outgoing coaching staff of Kyle Lightbourne and Ray Jones. Our intention is to build on the foundation they have set. I welcome Michael as we accelerate our immediate preparations and for the long-term. We are looking forward to thriving as another beacon ofsporting success,” said Maurice Lowe, the BFA Technical Director.
Mr Findlay said, “I am truly honoured and looking forward to the opportunity and would like to thank President Wade, the Bermuda Football Association, and its Player Development Committee for entrusting me as their new Head Coach of the Bermuda Men’s National Team.
“We are entering a new cycle within CONCACAF which provides for both exciting times and challenges for our Men’s National Team Program and I look forward to getting the chance to work with a talented and motivated group of players with potential and a committed support staff on this project. It is our objective to achieve short-term successes along with establishing a long-term strategy for Bermuda’s growth and success within the CONCACAF region.”
The BFA added, “The official introduction of Michael Findlay as the Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach to the team’s staff and players took place on Friday, August 11, 2023. A press conference with the media will be planned between August 15 and August 19, offering a platform to delve deeper into Findlay’s vision and strategies.
“The appointment of Michael Findlay aligns with BFA’s commitment to enhancing Bermuda’s football standing. Building on the progress that has been made by previous coaching staff members, this serves as a pivotal opportunity for the nation to assert its prowess on the international stage and take steps toward returning to CONCACAF Gold Cup and progressing further in the rounds. Ultimately aiming to achieve the overall goal of advancing to a FIFA World Cup.”
