Duke Of Edinburgh’s Golf Challenge On Sept 22

The 10th annual Duke of Edinburgh’s Golf Challenge will take place at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday [Sept 22] offering a wide array of prizes.

A spokesperson said, “The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Bermuda is pleased to confirm the 10th Annual Duke of Edinburgh’s Golf Challenge to take place at Port Royal Golf Course on Friday, 22nd September 12.30pm, Shot Gun Start. This is another exciting year for the Award’s Golf Challenge thanks to Freisenbruch sponsoring a $5,000 Hole-in-One cash prize on hole #3. We have had an amazing response from the community and the tournament is fully subscribed with 28 teams.

“The Golf Challenge is one of the Award’s largest fundraisers and all the money raised goes directly to supporting the operating costs of the Award and providing the programme free of charge to more than 450 participants per year. This is the 10th anniversary of the Golf Challenge, and we are pleased to celebrate its success by holding an online silent auction.

“Two of the top prizes being auctioned off are tickets to play in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Cup next year on three of England’s most prestigious golf courses. The final is held over two days at two top class Clubs around London concluding with a game at the Royal Household Golf Club in the grounds of Windsor Castle, with the Prize Presentation hosted by a Member of the Royal Family at Windsor Castle!

“Other exciting prizes include a 3-night stay at Cambridge Beaches Resort, a Private Chef Dinner with Chef Galli Amaradasa, Wine tasting for 10 at Gosling’s Wine Cellar, Honorary Observer tickets for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, 50% off a 3 hour cruise on the catamaran, ‘Kona’, Pickleball lessons and Rosé with tennis professional Neal Towlson and Golf lessons with golf professional, Quinton Sherlock Jr., a round of golf at Port Royal and lunch at Bella Vista Restaurant. Development Director of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Fiona Holmes, explained, “The Award’s Golf Challenge has always been a fun and entertaining afternoon of golf. The tournament includes a light lunch at registration and drinks on the course provided by Burrows Lightbourn Ltd., Barritt’s, The Supermart, The Market Place and Arnold’s Discount Warehouse. We are delighted to have the added excitement of the $5,000 hole-in-one prize, sponsored by Freisenbruch. This really does up the stakes in the tournament. If anyone is interested in supporting the Award, there are tee sponsorships available for $300 each. This will pay for a participant to engage in the Award for 4 months of the year.”

“In addition to the new silent auction, the Award’s Annual Raffle will be sold at the event and this year we have some fantastic prizes donated by some very generous local businesses.

“The prizes include a two night stay, including breakfast, at The Hamilton Princess sponsored by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, an iPhone 13 donated by Digicel, gift certificates for Ascots, The Reefs, Cambridge Beaches, Harry’s, the Little Venice Group, the Lobster Pot and Bella Vista. One Communications have donated an iWatch and the Bermuda Gin Company have provided four bottles of Bermuda Gin.

“There are also gift certificates donated by BELCO, Gear and Gadget Bermuda Ltd., The Supermart, Lindo’s Family Foods, Atelerie, The English Sports Shop, People’s Pharmacy, C-Mart and Lili Bermuda. There are several fun sailing prizes donated by USail Bermuda, and rounds of golf donated by Port Royal, 5 Forts, Turtle Hill, Ocean View and Belmont. We are extremely grateful and appreciative of everyone’s support for the Award.”

Chair of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Ryan Eve, concluded by saying, “On behalf of the Award Council, I would like to thank all our generous donors, teams, and players whose support will enable us to offer the Award Programme to young people in Bermuda ages 14 – 24 free of charge.
