Chatmore Spreads Cheer On Mental Health Day
In a heartwarming display of compassion and community engagement, students at Chatmore International School took to the streets on World Mental Health Day to spread a little extra cheer.
A spokesperson said, “On Tuesday, students crafted notes of positivity filled with affirmations, jokes, and kind words, and handed them out to members of the public. The intent was clear – to brighten someone’s day, inspire a smile, and, most importantly, foster awareness about mental well-being.”
“It was awkward at first because people thought we wanted money,’ middle school student Macario shared. Yet, undeterred by these initial misconceptions, the students continued their efforts, eventually bringing smiles to countless faces. Students strengthened their public speaking skills, confidence and emotional intelligence as they interacted with the community.
“This short time in Hamilton was not only positive for those they reached out to but also for the students themselves. “I was scared at first but then it became really fun!”, a P4 student shared. This initiative not only reaffirms Chatmore’s commitment to valuing wellness and fostering connectedness within the community but also highlights the school’s dedication to preparing students for life beyond the classroom.”
“It is important that students feel ownership over their learning, even outside of the classroom. Prefects were entrusted with organising the completion of the notes and students reflected on the experience after. Leadership, listening to each other and cooperation were all required to make this a success. Chatmore hopes to engage the community in more random acts of kindness in the future.
“This heartwarming act of kindness perfectly exemplifies the essence of Chatmore – a place where education goes beyond textbooks and traditional classroom boundaries. It’s a place where students are encouraged to grow not only academically but also as responsible, compassionate members of society. Chatmore focuses on instilling essential life skills and values, including community engagement, wellness, and family bonds, alongside academic excellence.”
