Tyler Christopher Ready For Upcoming Fight

Bermudian boxer Tyler Christopher said sparring with Sam Eggington – one of Britain’s most exciting fighters – has prepared him well for his upcoming bout against Connor Meanwell.
Christopher faces Meanwell in a six-round super-welterweight contest at the H Suite at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Saturday [October 21], looking to extend his perfect record to 8-0.
With sparring partners becoming hard to find for Christopher as his reputation grows in the “second city”, his manager Jon Pegg arranged a six-round sparring session with Eggington, a former IBO light middleweight champion.
“I’m very confident after sparring a veteran pressure fighter [in Eggington],” Christopher told Bernews.
“It was an excellent experience. Sam’s had loads of fights, fought on big TV bills, had 12-round fights – he’s a world-class operator.”
Eggington, who knocked out former two-times world champion Paulie Malignaggi in London in 2017, has previously held the British, Commonwealth and European welterweight titles.
“It was very competitive sparring and I gave him good work,” Christopher said. “He said he will use me as a sparring partner when he has to prepare for a southpaw.”
Meanwell, 2-1, reached the quarter-finals of the Top Boxer welterweight tournament in February in Solihull, West Midlands, but Christopher has no doubt he will come out on top.
“I’m feeling very confident,” Christopher, who is returning to the ring after a six-month absence. “I’ve seen a few clips [of Meanwell] here and there. He’s beaten some journeymen.”
Christopher said he will dedicate his fight to his former teacher, Treadwell Kirkland Butterfield, who recently died in a motorcycle accident.
“He was my teacher at the Care Learning Centre [in Pembroke], where I graduated in 2016,” he added. “He was very influential in helping me get my GED.”
